Have any of you wondered how God communicates with us? When we ask for something from Him, what signs do we expect from Him? (i didn't know it at first, but this blog seemst ot be the response to jennifer and angelas latest blog!!)
When we try to speak, we are immediately constricted by the unbelievable limitations of words and for this reason, God does not communicate with words alone. In fact, he rarely does!!! His most common form of communication is through feeling.
Feeling is the language of the soul.
If you want to know what’s true for you about something, look to how you’re feeling about it.
Feelings are sometimes hard to discover – and often even more difficult to acknowledge. Yet hidden in your deepest feeling is your highest truth.
God also communicates with thought. Thought and feelings are not the same, although they can occur at the same time. In communicating with thought, He often uses images and pictures. For this reason, thoughts are more effective than mere words as tools of communication.
In addition to feelings and thoughts, He also uses the vehicle of experience as a grand communicator.
And finally, when feelings and thoughts and experience all fail, God will use words. Words are really the least effective communicator. They are most open to misinterpretation, most often misunderstood.
This is because of what words are – merely utterances: noises that stand for feelings, thoughts, and experience. They are symbols. Signs. Insignias. They are not Truth. They are not the real thing.
Words may help you understand something. Experience allows you to know. Yet there are some things you cannot experience. So, God has given us other tools of knowing which are called feelings and thoughts.
Now the supreme irony here is that we have all placed so much importance on the Word of God, and so little on the experience.
In fact, we place so little value on experience that when what we experience God differs from what we’ve heard of God, we automatically discard the experience and own the words, when it should just be the other way round.
Our experiences and feelings about a thing represent what we factually and intuitively know about that thing. Words can only seek to symbolize what we know, and can often confuse what we know.
These then, are the tools with which God communicates with us, yet they are not the methods, for not all feelings, not all thoughts, not all experiences are from Him.
Many words have been uttered by others, in His name. many thoughts and many feelings have been sponsored by causes not of His direct creation. Many experiences result from these.
The challenge here then is discernment. The difficulty is knowing the difference between messages from God and data from other sources. Discrimination is a simple matter with the application of a basic rule:
His is always our Highest Thought, our Clearest Word, our Grandest Feeling. Anythign less is from another source.
Now the task of differentiation becomes easy as it should not be difficult even for the youngest children to identify their Highest, Clearest and Grandest.
Yet, we have these guidelines to follow: The Highest Thought is always that thought which contains joy. The Clearest Words are those words which contain truth. The Grandest feeling is that feeling which we call love.
Joy, Truth, Love. These three are interchangeable, and one always leads to another. It matters not in which order they are placed.
Having these guidelines helps us to determine which messages are from God and which have come from other sources. The only other question is whether God’s messages will be heeded.
Most of His messages are not. Some, because they seem too good to be true. Others, because they seem too difficult to follow. Many, because they are simply misunderstood. Most, because they are not received. His most powerful messages come in the form of experience, but more often than not, we ignore it.
Our world would not be in its present condition if we had listened to our experience. They result of us not doing so is that we keep re-living it, over and over again. God purpose will not be thwarted, nor His will ignored. We will get the message, sooner or later.
Though, God will not force us, or coerce us. For He has given us Free Will – the power to do as we choose – and He will never take that away from us.
And so, God will continue sending us the same messages over and over again, endlessly until we have received them and perceived them, understanding them.
His messages will come in a hundred forms, at a thousand moments, across a million years. We will not miss them if we truly listen and we cannot ignore them once we have truly heard.
Listen.
