A Close Encounter

We were all tucked nicely into our seats, seat belts buckled and safety instructions given. Flight FR 508 was ready to take off from Dublin International Airport. Destination- Bristol...

The lights flicker, and suddenly an announcement comes on. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. There seems to be a little electrical problem in the cockpit. we are going to open the doors to let the flight engineer in to have a look. Please bear with us."

A groan is heard from one of the passengers, but more interestingly, the passenger behind me comments " The plane crash in Thailand also started with a lighting problem..." and suddenly a hush descended onto the plane.

Then the plane engines are switched off and the cabin lights go off, only the emergency lights are on, it's like being in a real emergency situation, except everyone is quiet this time and there are no people running helter skelter.

A moment later the captain comes on and announces that the problem is solved, but he needs another 15 minutes to warm up the machine again...and another groan is heard...

Oh well, thank god we safely landed in Bristol, albeit after a 30 minute delay.
